LADBROKES HAVE today been revealed as the official sponsor of the Steve Morison and Grant Holt Racing Club.
The bookmaker has teamed up with the pioneering club for the start of the new football season in a unique venture which unites a major bookmaker with a footballer owned greyhound racing club for the first time.
SMGH Racing Club trainer Jim Daly, newly attached to Coventry, has already been running his eye over potential ready-to-run purchases in Ireland as the club look to use the sponsors’ investment to make their most expensive purchase to date, with future Sky and Racing Post Greyhound TV competitions at tracks across the country firmly in mind.
The sponsorship tie-up comes as Daly completes his move from Yarmouth to Coventry meaning club members will be able to enjoy watching their greyhounds in action live on Racing Post Greyhound TV on Wednesday nights as well as via the live streaming service offered by the Brandon based circuit.
Club members and fans alike will also be able to read the thoughts of both players as Morison and Holt document the progression of the club via regular blog posts as well as making regular updates via social media.
The club was founded by the Millwall and Wigan stars during their time as strike partners at Norwich City with the aim of offering newcomers the chance to experience the thrill of owning top-class greyhounds for just £25 a month. All expenditure from the purchase of the greyhounds to their veterinary bills is met by Morison and Holt with the players keen to let fans of both the sport and the clubs they play for past and present get in on the action.
Steve Morison said: “It’s really exciting having Ladbrokes on board. We don’t believe anything like this has ever been done before and we’re confident we can break new ground in the sport with their help. Jim is already over in Ireland looking for a future superstar for the club – there really is a lot to look forward to and there’s never been a better time to get involved.”
Alex Donohue of sponsors Ladbrokes said: “After approaching Steve at the Trainers’ Championship night at Yarmouth we were blown away with his enthusiasm and commitment to the club and we knew immediately that we wanted to get involved. Steve and Grant have got some big plans and it’s a pleasure to be a part of it. We’ll do what we can to help promote the club with the view to giving the sport a boost at the same time.”
